ABOUT CARDIS TUITION
Welcome to Cardis Tuition, the home of tuition and study coaching with Verity Carter (MA Ed, PGCE, MCCT).
I am a Secondary English specialist with over ten years in the classroom and extensive experience as a GCSE examiner for both English Literature and Language. In that time, I have been a committed classroom teacher, English department leader, and literacy co-ordinator; I love the job and I love to work with young people in a subject where they get to ask questions and express ideas and opinions. You can read Romeo and Juliet with a different class every year for ten years (or mark 200 exam paper responses) and still find yourself surprised when they suggest a new interpretation of a previously insignificant moment that turns the whole scene on its head.
But it's no secret that working in schools is demanding, particularly for parents of young children, so from September 2025, I stepped into a part-time role in school that has enabled me to find a better balance between work and family life while my boys are young. This also means I am now building up Cardis Tuition, which gives me the flexibility to do what I love on my own terms.
In a world of AI and TikTok teachers, it seems like shortcuts and easy answers are at our fingertips. At Cardis Tuition, the goal is not just to help young people pass exams, but to build independence and resilience, a sense of self-accountability, and ultimately the enjoyment of hard work and its rewards.

OUR SERVICES
What We Offer
ENGLISH TUITION
Online or in-person study sessions to support your child's progress in reading, writing, and speaking and listening. Cardis Tuition offer bespoke study support for young people throughout their secondary education, as well as preparation for assessment.
Each session is carefully structured to meet the needs of your child, reviewing previous learning, covering new material, and agreeing work to be completed independently before the next session. As a parent or carer, you will receive detailed feedback every week on your child's progress.
Based in Haslemere, I can offer tuition in your home or school in the surrounding areas including Hindhead and Liphook. A small charge for travel may be applied depending on your location.
COACHING & CONSULTATION
Managing homework -- particularly coursework and mock preparation -- can be stressful for the whole family. If your child is struggling to get started, feeling overwhelmed, or just prefers to keep their head in the sand, you can support their independence and progress with a one-off consultation or a tailored programme of study coaching. More effective revision; time management; extending home learning; improving and extending reading and writing (both academic and for pleasure).
VIRTUAL STUDY GROUP
